The Carpinteria Farm Preserve & Bungalows will permanently protect nearly 14 new acres of public open space of the Carpinteria Bluffs with new trails and a farm preserve at no cost to the community, on what is currently privately-owned land zoned for housing and commercial development. A 99-room bungalow-style retreat, nestled alongside the newly preserved open space and farmland, will be designed to reflect Carpinteria’s natural beauty and coastal farming heritage. Additionally, 41 affordable housing units managed by People’s Self-Help Housing will complement the newly protected open space.
Preserve
Permanently preserving an additional 14 acres of Bluffs’ land will ensure community access to 10.5 acres of public open space and trails in perpetuity, along with 3 acres of permanently preserved farmland.
The 99-room nature-based bungalow-style retreat, crafted with sustainable materials. The primarily single story bungalows will be woven into the land to protect natural views and the surrounding environment, reflecting Carpinteria’s coastal agricultural heritage.
Working in harmony with the land, our approach prioritizes soil regeneration throughout the property. 5 acres of farmland will be preserved — 3 of those will be preserved for agricultural use and dedicated to organic farming. An additional 3.5 acres of native landscaping will support the health of the land.
Honoring the community’s legacy of preservation, the Farm Preserve & Bungalows will add an additional almost 14 acres of permanently protected land - 10.5 acres of open space preserve with public trails at no cost to the community plus 3 acres of agricultural preserve for regenerative farming. This will bring the Carpinteria Bluffs total preserved area to 83 acres.
